Reply Cameron Savage January 11, 2018 I have a Mac mini and was wondering if this would work as a primary monitor for it, I am a photographer and do work with video editing and need a powerful computer to take out with me. MacBook pros are too expensive and as I am always going to be using the computer in places with power outlets this would be ideal. Could anyone tell me if this or any other portable monitor would work as my primary one? Reply CP30 January 11, 2018 One word, LAPTOP!!! Just freakin’ buy a LAPTOP!!! Geez people make things harder for themselves!!! Reply Alvaro Muir January 11, 2018 I thought I was crazy for carrying mine around. Everything else seems so slow compared. Reply Nikko Syoni January 11, 2018 While the monitor might work fine for Windows users, it doesn’t work for Mac users, despite the fact that all indications from the product is that Mac OS is supported. The Yosemite driver got it to work partially, but there is no brightness control without the Windows-only EzLink software. The Brightness buttons on the device don’t work unless you have that software, to either turn off AI Light functionality, or control the unit from directly with EzLink. Without the ability to control brightness, the unit is quite dim, and to me it was not unusable. So, great concept, and it looks like it would work. But not if you have a Mac, and actually want to see what is on the screen. Reply Kamil 8020boost January 11, 2018 anyone knows how to adjust brightness on the MB168 Asus monitor when plugged to Mac? Reply Jae January 11, 2018 Can you make a version 2.0 please! Reply Kake Garcia January 11, 2018 Hi from Venezuela my friend and thanks so much for your videos, I am fan of the channel! I have a laptop wich screen sucks, I am Photographer and my laptop does not show me the right colors so I am thinking on buying the newest version of this monitor which is USB c, my concern is about the colors it shows, does it worth it?, can you do serious color work on the go with this? Thanks! Reply StefanosMac January 11, 2018 Nice idea !!! What is your equipment (brands and models) please ! 🙂 Reply Xtianz January 11, 2018 It’s better if you use Mac mini (the latest version) instead of Mac pro for light setup. The Mac pro looks so heavy to carry inside your bag. Reply Braadkuiken January 11, 2018 do a review on the monitor? interested in it, but not sure if it is what I am looking for Reply MyDataBelongs2Me January 11, 2018 Non-skippable ad = thumbs down Reply JKN Productions January 11, 2018 you should make a new one of these but have an iPad Pro as the screen instead Reply Xtianz January 11, 2018 When you realized that laptops are too mainstream. When I make it as the main and only monitor for my new Macpro, somehow I can’t open after effects. It’s showing an error which after I removed the monitor and replaced it with normal monitor then somehow I can open after efects normally. 2. When I use it as 2nd monitor for my new Macpro, and working with adobe premiere, and moving the preview window of my editing to that monitor, somehow the preview window doesn’t show anything but black. But when I move back the preview screen into my main screen, everything seems back to normal. Any suggestion? Reply Morgan Hvidt January 11, 2018 How is the monitor holding up? Reply henry stratton January 11, 2018 Use an iPad as a monitor by using a thunderbolt to vga adapter and a lightning to vga adapter Reply RAMSyndrome January 11, 2018 this is great 🙂 Reply Darren Kwee January 11, 2018 or you could get a mac book pro… Reply Bananas and Bass January 11, 2018 So the monitor, mouse and keyboard are battery powered. But is the Mac Pro wall powered? Reply guitargodab January 11, 2018 Jonathan, can you use a Macbook Pro as a display for the Mac Pro? or even the keyboard and trackpad from the Macbook to control the mac pro. Thanks a lot, great video. Reply Ben Thorn January 11, 2018 Thanks for posting! I have a 6 core 2013 Mac Pro and looking for a portable monitor for video editing. I don’t mind a bit or cursor latency tho worried that there might be frame lag while editing making it seem like the audio is out of sync when really it’s just the monitor. Does anyone know if the Asus monitor has frame lag while editing? Reply damien wicks January 11, 2018 G’day mate, thanks for the video. Do you know if it’s possible to use an iPad as the monitor for the Mac Pro. I asked in the store and the guy thought you might be able to with an app but he wasn’t sure. Amazing powerful portable setup. My macbook pro is about 6 years old and it is time for an upgrade. I mostly use at home but would like to be able to record gigs with M-audio interface. Thanks. Reply Former Channel January 11, 2018 For your next video on this, you should use an iPad and the duet display app, it will work as your monitor Reply 99Zimbo January 11, 2018 If you would use this with a windows notebook could you connect the display via some sort of MHL-cable to incress the ‘performance’ or are the 11ms just so slow to run smoothly? Reply Meunier Laurent January 11, 2018 Hi , I have a same configuration, but I have a problem to use FCP X 10.0.7 with my Asus MB 168+ and OSX 10.9.5 : the monitoring don’t work.(is black / no picture). If I use a second screen on my MACPRO card (thunderbolt) NO PB… Have you the same PB. In 1r time, FCP detected pb with Fx Factory plugins, but now, I uninstalled Fx Factory plugins, and the PB continius. Do you know this PB. thanks for you answer. Reply Meindert Jan Boekel January 11, 2018 does it work as a stand alone monitor? Reply Brayan Revolorio January 11, 2018 can you use the mac mini ? Reply JKN Productions January 11, 2018 Can’t wait for version 2.0 Reply Nikko Syoni January 11, 2018 Hello Jonathan, amazing setup for your macpro portable. Anywya i would like to ask you about asus monitor portable with new mac mini 2014 which is suitable? Reply Saul Barran January 11, 2018 Has anyone found a way to use a MacBook Pro late 2013 as a monitor for the MacPro late 2013 in target display mode? 🙂 Reply Drew Gardner January 11, 2018 Hi Jonathan, I managed a work around to get the display to work on my late 2013 Mac Pro running Yosemite, though brightness adjustment is disabled I can live with that compromise. I have hit a problem with the set up though which means it is pretty much useless for what I use it for though. When I plug the monitor in it disables the graphics cards, meaning the Mac Pro switches over to Apple software render, making it un-useable, just so slow taking tens of hours to do a simple task. Does anyone have a work around? Drew Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email.
